The dream of two friends is coming true…

I’m very happy about the Albert-Hobbs Big Band project. Almost all the recording is done and I will send the tracks off to be mixed later this week…. feels good. This has been a dream come true for me and Dave Albert (who’s been my best friend since 7th grade, we were members of the NHS band together, co-founders of the River City Jazz Ensemble, roommates at Berklee and general partners in crime for many years). We’re really excited about the project, which features Albert on drums and me on piano and keyboards. The album is all original music and arrangements and covers a lot of styles from Bossa, Latin, Swing, Bebop and Funk.

We’ve been fortunate enough to record together with some of the best musicians in Sweden; Wojtek Goral, Peter Getz, Staffan Finden, Patrik Skogh, Mikael Berg Andersson, Andy Pfeiler, Jan Adefelt and Tom Beimel. The album will be mixed by Marcus Black at Detona Studios in Stockholm.

”This is our first real recording together. When we were younger we did concerts and gigs together (we were probably the worst dance band ever… and it was all my fault. I only wanted to play my stuff and had a tendency to change tempos and grooves in the middle of the songs.). Albert played drums on a lot of my songwriter demos in the beginning and even played on some demos of some of the musicals I tried to get staged. So after more than 35 years… we decided it was time to do an album”- Brian Hobbs
“This has been a dream of ours since our time at Berklee. We actually started recording this project 3 years ago with some fantastic musicians in Raleigh, NC… but the technology Gods were not smiling on us and we lost almost all the recordings in a computer crash. That was a major setback but last year we decided to start all over and see it through. The “transatlantic collaboration” is working great so far. We have started recording again and it feels great!”-David Saleeba Albert

Plans are underway for release parties/concerts in Raleigh and Elizabeth City in April. Please check back for dates, venues and times.
